Does anyone know of any free file sharing sites that will allow me to email 6 or 7 videos approx. 10-20 minutes in length without the recipient having to subscribe to anything? Also, I only want the recipient to be able to watch the vids so it can't be YouTube or Veoh.

Also... I'm alive (obviously). Hurricane Ike wasn't as scary as I remembered Alicia being. Of course, we were much closer to the coast (and the eye) during Alicia. And I was 11 back then. This time we evacuated further inland to The Woodlands, but still got hit by the hurricane. My house survived just fine. We lost our fence and some trees during the hurricane, but that's about it. Could have been much worse. My family's bayhouse is still standing, but it's probably not going to make it. Too much water damage. *sigh* We'll know for sure in a week or two when we can get the insurance co. out to assess it. Kids don't go back to school until Sept. 29th.

I am leaving for a trip to new England with my mom, dad and sisters on Sept. 26th and will be back on Oct. 2nd. Then I go to Florida Oct. 9-12 to see the shuttle launch. My friend's husband is piloting this shuttle flight. It's his last trip to space, so they invited us to come see the lift off in person. My husband has to work so it'll just be me and the boys. We're staying near Cape Canaveral Wednesday and Thursday night. Friday and Saturday we'll be in Orlando. My son is dying to go to Gatorland, so we'll probably do that Friday.

How is everyone? Sorry I've been so absent lately.

Before I get into that... Happy Belated Birthday wowsugarpuss! Hope you had a great day.

So how am I getting to go to the Robert Plant & Alison Krauss concert GRATIS? I used what I like to call MARS-FU. I was sitting in traffic on Interstate 10 this morning (heading towards the teen camp) and was listening to Dean and Rog on 93.7fm. They do a weekly ticket give away contest called "Dead Person In the Envelope." Basically, they have a name of a dead person, you can call and ask one question to try to get a clue as to who it is, then the first caller to guess the right name gets the tix. When I started listening, the clues that had already been revealed were a) It's a female, b) she was a writer, c) she was British and d) she lived during WW2. Of course, I immediately thought about Agatha Christie. So I pulled out my trusty Sidekick and went to google Christie to find out exactly when she died. However, when the Google search page came up, the logo had been redesigned with Peter Rabbit in it to commemorate Beatrix Potter's birthday. Lightbulb went off in my head. I googled Beatrix Potter instead. Sure enough, she died in 1943 while WW2 was still raging. Bingo. So I called the radio station. And called and called and called and.... FINALLY GOT THROUGH! I got on the air and they asked me what my question was. I asked, "Did she write childrens books?" Their answer was "yes." I answered Beatrix Potter. FTW!!! I will be going to the concert on September 26th. I am SOOOOO excited!!

The Disney•ABC Television Group and The Walt Disney Studios are now accepting applications for the 2009 Writing Fellowship Program

Deadline for submission to the industry-leading program is August 8, 2008.

Launched in 1990, the writing program gives participants the opportunity to hone their craft and jump-start their careers through intensive workshops, seminars and personalized mentoring with creative executives from ABC Entertainment, ABC Studios, Disney Channel, ABC Family and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Production. Fellows receive a salary for a one-year period.

Successes for the current 2008 fellows include Erika Johnson, Leyani Diaz and Matthew Whitney already staffed respectively on ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” “Brothers & Sisters” and ABC Family’s “Greek.” Recent alumni who have staffed on ABC series include Bryan Oh as Executive Story Editor on the new Fall series “Life on Mars” and Raphael Garcia as Staff Writer on “Samantha Who?” Additionally, Roger Grant joined “Greek” as a staff writer and Kaita Mpambara on Disney Channel’s “Aaron Stone.”

Here's another film from my amazing after school students. For the sake of full disclosure, I actually edited the film. But my students, most of them in the 6th or 7th grade, did the camera work, conducted the interviews, wrote the VO (with some guidance of course) and picked the music. So this really is their film. I just bought a pass to the Hollywood Pitch Festival in August, so it looks like I'm going to be in Los Angeles for a few days. I've never been to an event like this before. I've been to the Austin Film Festival. It has a pitching competition - which is really fun to watch as a spectator. But this one is ALL pitching. I'm actually going to be doing some pitching this time - in front of people. So, at the very least, I think it will be good practice.

There's this group of dancers (?) who call themselves SEXYATTACK that are literally hitting store, musuems, restaurants, etc. all over the Montrose area in Houston. I haven't seen them live myself, but a couple of my friends have. This grocery store is where I go when I need to do some shopping near my office. Weird. Anyway, I thought this was kinda funny/crazy, so enjoy.

In other FilmTX news...

I was supposed to have lunch with my boss today. But she got picked for jury duty yesterday, so she had to postpone our lunch until next week. Problem is, I was totally planning to have a "light duty" day at work today - just checking emails and such. Now I have to actually work and I'm having trouble getting motivated. *sighs* Maybe I'll clean my desk.

My hubby and I have a date tonight. We're going to Galveston to have dinner at Gaido's, one of Texas's oldest restaurants, then over to The Strand Theatre to see my friend Eleese Lester's new musical Merkel, Texas. The boys are spending the night with my parents, so we don't have tobe back early. Yay!

Tomorrow, we're taking the boys to see Indiana Jones movie. I wasn't all that excited about the new Indy installment until I found out that Karen Allen is in it. I loved her in Raiders and Starman! Where the hell has she been? Whatever, glad she's back. Marion ROCKED!

Our vacation to the Cayman Islands is just a week and a half away. Damn, I better get started on that diet! Okay, so no 2 piece for me this summer. At least I'll be nice and tan for my trip to London. I get back from the Caymans on June 11th and leave for London on the 12th. How fucking insane am I?

So I just watched the Entertainment Tonight piece on the highly anticipated (by me anyway) movie musical "Mama Mia!" I have been eagerly awaiting this film since I first heard about it. I saw Mama Mia! on Broadway four years ago. I was blown away. I also love ABBA music. I know it's totally not like me to like this kind of music. In fact, I kinda hate disco music. But there's something about ABBA's music that is so infectious and fun. Their songs tell stories, so it's not surprising that they fit so well in the format of a staged musical. I just hope that it works on the big screen, too. Actually, it already has. I was first introduced to ABBA through a quirky little Australian movie called "Muriel's Wedding." If you haven't seen it, go rent it today. It is one of the funniest films ever. And it introduced America to two amazing Aussie talents named Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Little Miss Sunshine) and Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under, Brothers and Sisters). Check them out singing "Waterloo" from the movie. I love how Muriel (Collette) starts out all shy and reserved, despite the fact that she's essentially wearing a silver lycra one piece jumpsuit. But as she watches the drama offstage unfold, she gains her confidence and begins having fun. It's such a huge moment for this character. Hope you enjoy it.

Lookee what I got!

Her name is Domino. She's a 2 month old Parti Cocker Spaniel. Isn't she just the cutest? Hubby and the boys surprised me last night with this new addition to our family. So now we have Domino, an iguana named Spike, a bearded dragon named Frill, a turtle named Pokey and a tree frog named Rocky. Oh, and we have some nameless carp in our back pond, but I don't consider them pets.

What the fuck? Actually, I'm not really all that surprised. Barney and Robin have a lot in common. Both love Cuban cigars and guns (okay, technically, his is a lasergun, but whatev. Same principal.)
